A big thank you to Donald and his team who came to our rescue when we discovered wet rot in some of the logs of our 50-year-old traditional log cabin, near Callander. Whilst a relatively small job, Donald gave generously of his time to examine, investigate and explain the extent of the problem, and to outline how he proposed they tackle it. As Donald said afterwards, the method of construction was ‘unconventional’ and presented a few challenges. However, the skilled workforce carefully and methodically removed and replaced the bottom three tiers of logs along one wall of the cabin in less than a week, reinstating the cabin to a very high standard, and leaving the property in an exceptionally tidy state.

1. Quality of drawings
Donald provided excellent drawings to demonstrate the many iterations of the design. Donald could also provide images that were very helpful so that we could visualise the spaces. The final drawings were of excellent quality and the instructions provided were clear for the builder to use.
2. How would you describe the advise and service provided by Log & Cedar Homes
Working through the whole process and how you helped us design what we wanted and what was practical and possible within our budget.
Donald went through the whole process of designing the house to our needs. He was able to work to out something that was possible within the budget and practical to do on site. He was great at advising at what would work and what wouldn’t, he also had a wide understanding of building regulations to ensure we built to the standards required. The structural engineer that worked with Donald was very flexible and accommodating.
3. Quality of kit and fixtures
Our joiner though the kit was excellent and thought the cladding was really top notch stuff.
Donald’s kit is of a high quality. The materials and fixtures and fittings provided are of good quality. Our joiner was very impressed with the standard of the kit and thought the cedar cladding was an excellent finish. The doors and windows are of a high standard and the panels are accurately made.
4. Delivery and plans and instructions
Donald helped us organise the whole build which was great given we were project managing ourselves. Donald’s timescale and delivery dates were accurate and organised which alled us to be prepared for deliveries.
5. Final thoughts on living in it
We are very pleased with the house to live in, it is very warm and we can happily sit by the fire looking at the view. We still get people knocking on our door and wanting to look round the house.

Julie and Albert Taylor sold their successful vintners business, and decided to build a new home on the outskirts of a Perthshire village, on a beautiful site they had found. The site had an existing traditional cottage, which was only fit for demolition. Both wanted to replace it with something stylish and memorable, but in keeping with it’s rural location. When they saw the Linwood details, they instantly knew this was just what they wanted.

The progress has been superb and has vindicated me in sticking with timber frame rather than site build. To build outdoors at this time of year would have been so much harder and slower. Progress is superb.
The windows and doors look stunning and I can’t wait to see an elevation clad or partially clad and the scaffolding gone.
The pace is such that everybody else is being caught out by the speed (inc me!)
Many thanks and I am so delighted I have chosen you, I was only saying to Geraint today that you seem bothered to get it right for the client and I have thus enjoyed your input. Geraint also seems, as you suggested, a great find – I have taken his advise over the roofer and now he is talking to Hervey’s kitchen supplier re ideas.
